Social media and traditional public relations really aren’t all that different. Yet many organizations still struggle quite a bit in navigating the landscape. Sure, there is plenty to keep track of with seemingly constant technology challenges and ever-changing platforms. But in my mind, there is one difference between public relations and social media that is more important than all the rest. The editor.
When I first moved to Sydney I was forced to be frugal with my clothes packing as I could only fly with 23kg of luggage. As such, I considered flip flops, summer dresses and shorts as my essentials (because it’s always sunny in Sydney, no?), and chose to disregard winter warmers like jackets, jumpers and boots. In hindsight, this was not my wisest move and has since resulted in me having to build up my winter wardrobe entirely from scratch.
If there is one thing that is glaringly obvious in our digitally driven world it’s that the media landscape has changed.
