Jaymee

As I boarded my flight at 6:30am Monday and watched as Melbourne faded away in the distance, I knew that this was the step I needed for my career.  I have interned at many places before, and I am currently interning once a week in Melbourne. However I have wanted to intern at Red ever since I began my PR journey in 2010.

Hearing about the agency being so fast-paced and on the go, I was stoked when I was given this opportunity. It couldn’t have come at a better time as I am in my final year of study at RMIT University, undertaking a Bachelor of Communications (Public Relations). Like many, I have no idea where I want to be or what I want to specialise in!

My first day at the office had me feeling mixed emotions and thoughts– I was nervous, excited and eager to start my week. The team at Red are absolutely lovely and they had me doing things in the first hour that normally an intern wouldn’t do.  I had this image in my head that I would just be doing some filing or coffee runs, but this definitely was not the case; in fact they all took me out for lunch and coffee!

My role this week was to learn the ropes of agency life, and an important feature of this was that you can never have enough of preparation and planning. Everything in the office goes through a process of planning, through which I was exposed to a world of checklists and pre-planning processes. I was given insight into how Red actually operates its pitches and manages its clients, and being a part of this was truly an amazing experience.

I can definitely say that this internship was like none other; they really give you the opportunity to be a part of “real life” experiences, and would encourage you all to apply.

I was seeking and craving an adventure when I applied for this role…and I definitely got one!
