You know you have chosen the right career, when the one thing you thought would be the hardest thing to achieve has proven to be my greatest feat to date. Not only did we achieve some excellent PR for the show, but we had a fun time doing it. I met some lovely people and found out a whole lot more about cars, fishing and 4WDS then I thought I ever would.

“Drop it on it’s nuts” is now not an unfamiliar term to me and no, get your mind out of the gutter, it does not mean what you think it does – it’s simply referring to the level at which a car is lowered. Who’d have thought it.

Last Thursday night we launched officially launched the Action Arena for the Tinnie and Tackle Show and National 4×4 and Outdoors Expo at the RNA Showgrounds, Brisbane.

With 20 excited motoring and travel journos, and they’re equally excited and probably very nervous partners, we kicked off the show with ride-on Esky races and test driving extreme 4WDs, where guests   were advised to “slam your way across the course and stomp on anything that gets in your way”.

Oh, yes, you did just read that – Ride. On. Esky. Initially just a gimic to bide time, the esky race’s became a crowd favourite with the Cruzin Cool Esky’s getting up to speeds of 20kms/h on our makeshift dirt race track. A lucky winner took home one these bad boys valued at $650.00. Check them out at www.cruzincoolproducts.com.au. I’ve already given my boyfriend an early Christmas list and everyone in the office is trying to convince our boss we need one for trips to and from the board room. Preferably two to settle any office disputes with an esky-off, but whatever.

Attendees were also entertained with an Isuzu Ute reversing challenge, which sounds easier then it is when you add a 20 foot boat attached to the back of the vehicle to the equation. Some great practice for any boating enthusiast, I on the other hand stuck to my hosting duties, luckily.

Mini rock crawlers were also on display for anyone keen on getting hands on without putting your safety in danger.

But for most of the rev heads in attendance the highlight of the night would have to have been when guests got the chance to get behind the wheel of the extreme off road vehicles on the Action Arena’s dirt battle field. I even saw a girl behind the wheels of one of these beasts. Very, very impressed.

After all the hands on activities were done, guests were made to sit back relax and let the professionals take over whilst being treated to drinks and a gourmet BBQ cooked by celebrity chef Spida Everitt, AFL player turned TV outdoors adventure man (The Great Australian Doorstep). The man can cook a mean souvalaki.

Overall, a very successful evening and an awesome show to work on. I am so glad I was pushed outside my comfort zone and look forward to the next outdoors and adventure experience.
