A number of key brands have jumped on the Julia Gillard bandwagon and released some fantastic advertising gimmicks and campaigns to achieve PR at a very difficult time. I’ve been keeping my eyes and ears open for great reactive campaigns and here are my top three campaigns from the last few days.

  • 1. First place goes to Jet Star for this online ad on MX’s website the same night the new PM was elected.
  • 2. The number two spot has to go to the Fox Hotel for their ‘Free Steak to Ranga’s on a Sunday’; they even got a mention Brisbane radio station 97.3fm.
  • 3. Digital agency Memery gets the third place spot for their impressive Google ad campaign. After the news broke about the new PM, their well thought out PR plans for their client – The Diet Plan – were well and truly dropped (they had lined up a number of interviews with ABN and the Kerrie-Ann Show to name a few) but the quick thinking agency threw together a new plan of topical Google Adwords, so when the word ‘Kevin Rudd’ or ‘Julia Gillard’ were typed into google, ads for their client ‘The Diet Plan’ appeared to the right of the page.
  • 4. A special mention also has to go to one of my favourite fast food joints, Nando’s. Check out their latest promotion which ran in News Ltd papers the days after Julia Gillard took the post as our new PM.

Love them or hate them, you have to take your hats off to these brands for their quick thinking, impressive turn around and tongue in cheek campaigns.
