Consider your conscience this Christmas and give a gift that keeps on giving.  Whether it is a pre-loved book, personalised greeting card or monetary donation in a friend’s name, many charities have the perfect gift solutions that your family and friends will love and your community will appreciate.

With Australians spending millions of dollars on Christmas cards and gifts each year it makes sense to spend your money where it can be used to benefit others who need it most. There are hundreds of amazing causes out there but here are just a few that I’ve put together as a quick guide to selfless silly season spending:

–          We all send Christmas cards but instead of buying generic cards why not pick from the beautifully illustrated cards designed by children with Cystic Fibrosis? They are a wonderful alternative to standard cards, can be printed with corporate messages and are available from just 90c.  Available here.

–          For a hard-to-buy-for person Australia’s own carbon neutral retailer Arterystore.com is also leading the way. Whether it’s fair trade footballs or handmade recycled jewellery arterystore.com.au features a number of egalitarian co-op brands which aid developing nations as well as some the coolest big name designers. They have product categories specifically dedicated to sustainable design, local, handmade and ethical brands and their packaging is biodegradable to further minimise impact on the environment.  A percentage of all sales are also donated to ACT for Kids.

–          Looking for a cook book for your mum? Novel for dad or otherwise? Titles that are still full price in book stores can be purchased pre-loved from Cystic Fibrosis Queensland’s secondhand bookstores at Nundah and Salisbury for just a fraction for the cost.

–          For those people who already have EVERYTHING? Why not make a charity donation in their name? Charities like World Vision and others locally put together the perfect cards for corporate or personal donations.

These are just a few of the ways you can you use your festive funding can be driven further to help the community. If you have another Christmas-charity tips to any of the other very worthy causes out there please let us know and leave them below!
