Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”

So I am setting about making some changes in 2010, changes to my professional and my personal life. In my job I am responsible for the work life of my team and I am committed to being the leader of change for them at Red PR and Blue By Red PR.  For our clients, I’m determined to take the good things from 2009 with us… and leave the not so good behind.

Our values have always been simple: work hard and play hard, be passionate about our clients and our industry, push the boundaries, strive to do better and not be the biggest, but the best.

In 2009 we achieved most of those goals, but I know we lost our way at times on the passion thanks to the stress caused by the GFC. We fought hard every day for 365 days – mojo-wise it took its toll. I’m bringing passion back this year. I’m leading the passionate change we need.

Thinking about the last decade made me feel melancholy and if you will allow me to self indulge I’d love to share some highlights over the last 10 years.

1. Opening our Brisbane head office in 2003

2. Opening our Sydney office, Blue By Red PR, in 2009

3. Our first Red Day party in 2004 at the Emporium Art Gallery

4. Being the only Australian partner of the PROI and coordinating our first international staff exchange last year with PROI partner Jackson Spalding in Atlanta, Georgia – Ashlee will always be an honourary member of our team

5. Attending the PRSA conference in the US in 2007 with Donna Kramer

6. Winning the Westfield Shopping Centres account in 2008 in a competitive pitch

7. All the wonderful people that have been part of our team and our success

8. Personally being asked to speak at the AIM International Women’s Day Debate in 2008

9. Numerous awards for work well done that have seen us open a few too many bottles of champagne

10. Launching Gen Red, our social media division, in 2009

In every business it is important to take the time to reflect on the highs, as we can get so caught up in the day to day. An early highlight for 2010 is having marketing superstar Victoria Parker join our team. I know she will be a real asset.

If I can impart any wisdom on you from my ramblings about the last ten years, it’s to be a leader of change in your organisation and see what magic it brings.
