At Blue by Red PR maintaining and fostering strong media and client relationships is at the heart of what we do. To keep our relationships strong we regularly meet journalists for coffee catch ups, attend PR and media events and network to keep in touch with media, industry influencers and the general PR community (working in the heart of the creative hub of Surry Hills certainly helps)!
Meeting journalists face to face can be a great way to build strong and lasting relationships. A quick catch up with a key journalist allows you to gain a better understanding of the sorts of stories they‘re looking for and the clients they’re interested in. What’s more, it’s just as worthwhile for the journalist to meet with you as it gives them a chance to tell you exactly what they’re after and the stories they’re hunting down.
It’s so important to remember that PRs and journalists need each other to do their job and so it should feel like an evenly balanced partnership. Foster that relationship and you’ll both get rewards.
The Blue by Red PR Sydney team regularly attends PRjournolove, a networking event set up by Dynamic Business editor Jen Bishop to help foster relationships between Sydney PRs and journalists. It’s a great initiative as it lets you catch up informally with media and other PRs over a glass of wine. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for info on their next event!
PRINKS is another great networking group that’s a great resource for PR professionals. The PRINKS community was set up for the benefit of communications professionals and is designed for people to share ideas, insights and experiences for the benefit of the communications industry.
Can anyone recommend any other great PR and communications networking groups in Sydney and Brisbane?
