24 hours. That’s approximately how long it took me to travel from Boston to Sydney. 24 seconds. That’s how long it took me to realize that regardless of the 16,000+ kilometers separating home and the land down under, I was visiting a PROI partner agency that shared a company culture and set of values quite similar to my own at 360PR.
From the moment I walked through the doors of The Red Republic’s office in Sydney, my eyes were met with a familiar sight. Client products lined shelves at the reception area, photos of team members were on display highlighting their accomplishments, and an energetic team hopped up to greet me. A welcoming atmosphere, indeed.
Over the course of the week, I split my time between Sydney and Brisbane, where I got a deep glimpse into the work that they are doing in a media market that is much smaller than that in the United States. I learned quite quickly that while the media landscape is very different, the tactics and strategies that go into campaigns are often quite similar. What I witnessed was constant brainstorming for a clever new angle, identifying the right media targets for a particular story, and a full team effort pitching to drive coverage – just like back home.
Collaboration is constant across both offices, with various ideas being tossed around about how things can be done to get the best result for clients. And the results are impressive. From portable luxury hotel suites generating massive news coverage to detailed social influencer campaigns driving awareness, the team’s creative way of thinking through ways to deliver for clients has been inspiring.
PR is a demanding industry, but that doesn’t mean there’s no time for fun. The team at The Red Republic went out of their way to make sure I got to see their fun side, as well. From drinks at the picturesque Opera Bar in Sydney to an Australian BBQ on the bank of the Brisbane River (dive-bombing birds and all), I’ve gotten a taste of the culture outside of the workplace. And these guys do it right.
At 360PR, our people are what truly makes the agency successful; the same is evident at The Red Republic. I’d like to express my thanks to the wonderful team here at The Red Republic. It’s been an amazing experience learning about the work and culture, and I’m looking forward to following the awesome work you guys will continue to do.
Come visit us in Boston (just don’t come in the winter…)
