All the fashion magazines you read, the television stations you watch and the radio stations you listen to are using it. Brands left, right and centre are beginning to turn to this new media to amass fans, fanatics and followers.
If you don’t know what I am talking about then you are an absolute twit and no pardon for the pun. Twitter is the new online social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read other users’ updates, known as tweets, and has enjoyed extensive visibility and popularity worldwide.
With several million users worldwide, you can find out what Britney, Rhianna and Hilary are up to every day with fanatical Twitters repeating their twittering mantra every day: Follow. Reply. ReTweet. Share. Repeat.
I think the question now is not if Twitter will stick around, but how it will evolve in the future. Will there be a general shift from Twitter to another new online social networking medium, like what we have seen from Second Life to My Space to Facebook to Twitter?
Another question now is how PR agencies will adopt this new form of online socializing. On-the-pulse publicity agencies are adopting this latest online social networking craze for both their own use and for their clients, paving the way PR is applied now and into the future from more traditional media outlets.
