Managing a number of our clients’ social media pages, we constantly strive to ensure their pages are kept fresh, relevant, appealing to their target audience and with a strong community of followers. We want their pages to be noticed for all the right reasons.
One way we like to launch, liven up or create a buzz around a clients’ social media is through Facebook competitions. Not only are competitions a great way of interacting with fans and followers, they are also a fantastic way of building up a brand’s online presence and spreading awareness for their brand or service.
Just think; for every new Facebook fan that joins your client’s page, you’re opening up your client to a whole new potential audience, increasing the competition’s reach considerably each time.
So, how can you get people interested in your client’s facebook competition? Here are some tips we’ve picked up along the way:
Support your competition with Facebook advertising to encourage new fans to visit and ‘like’ your page. You can even target people with relevant interests or based on location etc.
Offer up a great prize. People don’t enter competitions unless there’s a great prize on offer. For our Naisoso Island facebook competition, we gave away the ultimate Fiji Hamper, offering a Fiji-inspired prize each day. Some of the prizes on offer included a trip on the Sigatoka River Safari in Fiji, a Suboo holiday fashion package (including umbrella, kaftans, hat and towels) and flipflops and suncream.
Think of a timescale for your competition. If you have a lot of followers, offer a prize a day for a month. If you are still building up your fan base, stick to one prize a week for a month, to build momentum.
Follow the rules. Refer to the new facebook guidelines when running your competition. A very important development is that competitions can now no longer run on your company’s timeline or wall, they must be created via a competition tab (Our preferred template finder is PageModo, see example template below). And finally, share the competition on your other social media channels, be it your company facebook page, personal page, twitter or website. You want to generate as much hype for your competition as possible and so the more you shout about it, the better!
