Your presence on Twitter requires a certain level of grooming in order to offer something meaningful to your followers.  Those with the most followers don’t always have the best community – it’s about engagement and interaction.

The fashion world is taking notice of social media, with bloggers and socialites jumping on board the Twitter bandwagon.  Fashionistas wanting to embrace this digital age can do a number of things to maximise their presence.

Publicise, publicise, publicise
Link your Twitter account to your fashion blog and Facebook fan page.  There are some other places you can promote your Twitter account, including:

  • Email signature
  • Business card
  • Website
  • Portfolio
  • Photography

Don’t waste the pretty!
Face it, fashion girls love the pretty – so don’t waste it! As a fashion blogger you are probably well aware of how important it is to be presentable. Whatever you do, don’t skimp on your Twitter presence. First impressions make all the difference so make sure you look after:

  • Your Icon/Avatar – what does it say about you? Is it a logo? Do you update it regularly?
  • Your Background – I like to have it match the look and feel of the brand of my vintage business, so as long as it’s engaging, chic and pretty (not absolutely necessary) then you’re well on your way!

Sew more seeds, follow people
It is a little strange when a Twitter user doesn’t follow anyone back and even I admit to falling behind on following back – but I always try. The point is to follow only quality contacts – there is no point following the Australian Cat Society if you hate cats. It will only clutter your feed.

Love your Twitter collection
Make sure you give your followers lots of love. Engage, make sure your Tweets are quality and interesting, reply when you can, retweet and have fun!

Thrift your Twitter deadbeats
If those you follow don’t offer value to your Twitter experience, it’s time to de-clutter and let them go. There are some great tools online which can help you do this – if your follower base is massive. And don’t be afraid – this is your space and make it yours!
